Yass Valley artist Sara Phemister has published her first publication, a storybook style format that features her own artwork. The book was launched to a capacity crowd at the ‘Thyme to Taste’ Deli/Cafe in the town of Yass on Saturday 19th October 2013. ‘Beautiful Lovely Sam’ is a dedication to a much loved and missed member of the Phemister family, their late dog Sam. Local poet & writer Robyn Sykes has swept all competition aside in the past few months as she scoops up state & national awards. Last October she jointly won the title of Victorian Women’s Performance Poetry Champion and last month she won the New South Wales title. Two weeks ago at the Parmalat Australian Bush Poetry Campionships in Corryyong she was crowned Australian Women’s Performance Champion. Our local poet came home clutching one first place, one second and two third place certificates and was the only performer to score a place in each category!
A new book detailing the history of the Wee Jasper Valley by local author Jennifer Barton will be launched on Saturday 25th June 2011 at ‘Cooradigbee Homestead’, Caves Road, Wee Jasper. A poetry masterclass will be held of the weekend 20-21 March at the historic Yass Valley property of ‘Blackburn’. Presented by Steve Kelen who teaches poetry and creative writing at the University of Canberra the masterclass is designed to focus the poet’s vision and find the right words. Artist/illustrator Anneke Nes, known to most in the Yass Valley Shire as Anneke Saunders, will launch a new book at the National Library, Canberra, this November.
Unfortunately, this launch is limited in numbers, but despair not!
There will be a general launch on Sunday the 13th December at 3pm at the Cork Street Cafe in Gundaroo, which will feature food & wine, book signings and art for sale.
