Bryan grew up in Papua New Guinea and had a good artistic grounding in a very musical family and an equally musically active school.

A graduate of the Canberra School of Music and the Canberra College of Advanced Education in 1981, Bryan has been composing, arranging, singing, performing and teaching in the region for many years, and has been the senior woodwind tutor to the Yass schools band program for at least 15. With respect to performance he specialises in clarinet, flute and saxophone and currently plays in the front line of the ConneXion Big Band in Canberra. He is also the assistant director for the band.

Bryan has directed a number of student-based clarinet and saxophone choirs and has arranged many pieces for these groups and has entered them in Eistedfodd and other music festival programs over the years, with good results.

He was the senior woodwind tutor at Bellchambers Music School in Phillip for 14 years from 1992.

Bryan’s range of musical interests is wide and his compositional and arranging output reflects this as it crosses many stylistic boundaries. He has written for male quartet and other vocal combinations, concert and big bands, full orchestra, rondalla orchestra, bass guitar, chamber music of various kinds, and numerous folk, gospel and pop songs. He encourages his own students to write and has arranged a number of their better offerings for wider exposure. Some of these pieces are currently listed on the flute, clarinet and saxophone ANZCA syllabuses.

Bryan has been working as a freelance musician since 1992 and sees no compelling reason to stop now!!
