Yass Music Club. Concert #1:
Idea of North
The Idea of North is an Australian a cappella vocal quartet founded in Canberra in 1993. The groups name is taken from the radio broadcasts of pianist Glenn Gould. They have a beautifully distinct sound and style, but cross many genres: jazz, folk, gospel, pop and comedy. Winners of 2013 ARIA Award for ‘Best Jazz Album’

FILL YOUR OUTBOX WITH POEMS (Lizz Murphy Poetry Workshop)
Fill your Outbox with Poems is a series of poetry workshops facilitated by Binalong poet Lizz Murphy. Each workshop has a theme to inspire new ideas and new writing. Find out how writing to a theme can fire up your creativity.
The theme is ‘Nests.’ The morning will include fun and challenging writing exercises, hints and incentives, discussions to generate more ideas, advice on getting your work ready to send to journals. More poetry for your outbox! All welcome – from aspiring to experienced poets and short prose writers.
Lizz Murphy has published twelve books and her poetry is widely published in Australia and overseas. She is well known for her popular writing workshops which guide new writers and help others with writer’s block and fresh directions and goals.

Yass Show Society Inc. is proud to present the Yass Show Poets’ Breakfast and Junior Written Poetry Prize, to be held in conjunction with the 152nd Yass Show. The Poets’ Breakfast will be a non-competitive, open microphone event in the Shearing Pavilion. All poetry lovers and supporters are welcome to either perform or listen.

The Shearing Shed Gallery: Ruth Dodd Exhibition
Ruth studied Interior Design at the National Art School East Sydney and practiced as an interior designer before moving into the field of cartography. She then moved to Canberra to continue her career in cartography, with a focus on the design of maps. Ruth commenced painting full-time after moving to a small acreage near Yass, NSW. Lyne Dingwall is a Yass Valley artist and has been painting for over twenty years. Lyne’s work is diverse and embraces different mediums and methods, both traditional and representational.
Julie Hawkins is a Canberra artist. She has been painting for several years and is a student of Lyne Dingwall. Julie’s work is inspired by her extensive national and international travel.

The Llewellyn Choir
(The Katherine Holmes & Mary Reid Memorial Concert)
The Llewellyn Choir was founded in 1980 and is recognised as one of Canberra’s leading amateur choral groups. Under the baton of current Musical Director Rowan Harvey-Martin with Répétiteur Anthony Smith, they have given critically acclaimed performances. Their performance in Yass will focus on the centenary of World War 1 and include music from that time in anticipation of ANZAC Day on the 25th April.

Cooma Cottage: Hume’s Heyday Festival
Featuring a ukelele ensemble (11 members strong) in two separate performances, and a world renowned silhouette cutting artist who will cut your portrait while you wait, poetry performances & art.
The festival also includes Cobb & Co coach rides, & colonial games, wine & olive oil tasting, cow milking, blade shearing, horse ploughing, pole-lathe turning, colonial cooking and more. There will be an animal petting pen, an egg-tossing contest and a private coach on display. Beware of the bushrangers, and behave – the mounted police will be on site!

YAZZBAR presents: COMART Art Auction
COMART is a small art group in Yass who have been taking classes with Penny Carlisle. Many of the works are currently on exhibition at Yazzbar. The works are being auctioned by Andrew Curlewis of Yass Valley Property – thank you Andrew.
The artists are: Pam Bell, Ruvae Bush, Margaret de Jong, Beryl McCAnn, Grace McCarter, Sharon McCarter, Julie Thirlway, Adrienne Zandona. All art sale proceeds go to the artists.

Bush Baroque
Richard and Joan Milner, Rachel Walker and Owen Bingham playing Viols joined with guests Jo Johnstone (soprano) and Nick Pollock(Lute), Bush Baroque will feature the music of two Elizabethan composers who wrote for lute and viol, very fashionable instruments of their time. This programme will include some of Dowland’s best loved songs such as ‘Time Stands Still’ and ‘Come again’, as well as some catchy numbers of Holorne as a contrast, such as ‘Paradizo’ and ‘Hey Ho Holiday’.

This newly formed trio consists of Andrew Lorenz on violin, Robert Harris on viola and Wendy Lorenz on piano. The trio are delighted to offer their audience a chance to experience the seldom heard yet beautiful repertoire for this ‘ not so usual’ combination. Taking their name from the area where the Lorenz’s live, their programme will include music by Beethoven, Nino Rota and Carl Reinecke. Their concerts both here and in Sydney have been very well received.

YASSarts ‘Sculpture in the Paddock’ is staged in the beautiful surrounds of the National Trust property ‘Cooma Cottage’, once home of the famous Australian born colonial explorer Hamilton Hume.
