Binalong Mural advertWith the upcoming commemoration of the death of bushranger Flash Johnny Gilbert on the 16th May 2015, the good citizens of Binalong have decided to repaint the Johnny Gilbert mural in Binalong. (The old one, painted, in 1983 for the Binalong Centennary, had become too deteriorated to restore).

Binalong Arts Group is collecting donations for a wonderful new mural telling the story of Johnny Gilbert and it will be painted by some ‘infamous’ Binalong artists. Please drop into the Post Office or send to Binalong Post Office, Binalong NSW 2584. (Cheques to Binalong Arts Group.)

Member for Goulburn Pru Goward today encouraged local visual artists embarking on their careers to apply for a $30,000 NSW Government Visual Arts Fellowship.  “The NSW Liberals & Nationals Government is providing this funding as part of its commitment to supporting the professional development of artists in our State,” Ms Goward said.
“The fellowship is open to visual artists at the beginning of their careers and will support a self-directed program of professional development that might include travel, a mentorship or internship, residencies, courses, workshops, research or the creation of new work.
“This is an excellent opportunity for emerging visual artists to gain recognition for their work, exhibit in an internationally recognised arts centre, and receive support for their professional development.
“I encourage visual artists from across the Goulburn Electorate to apply for this fellowship: it would be great to have a  young artist from our region take up an opportunity like this.

A shortlist of up to 12 artists will be selected by an independent panel of peers managed by Arts NSW. The artists’ works will be exhibited at Artspace, Sydney from 12 November to 18 December 2015.

Applications for the NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) close on 18 May, 2015 with the successful candidate expected to be announced at the exhibition opening.
