Mongan – Cheryl

 Cheryl Mongan’s life-long interest in history has led to her involvement in heritage organisations, advisory committees and frequent speaking engagements at seminars, conferences and workshops.

She has co-authored two publications with Dr Richard Reid ‘a decent set of girls’: the Irish Famine Orphans of the Thomas Arbuthnot 1849-1850 and ‘We have not forgotten’: Yass and Districts War 1914-1918 and in 2007 contributed to and was a co-editor of a major publication Echoes of Irish Australia: Rebellion to Republic.

 In 2005 Cheryl was a guest curator for the exhibition Galong – Paradise of the Ryans at the Canberra Museum & Gallery. Her spare time is occupied in the organisation of historical, genealogical and other cultural events, particularly at St Clement’s Retreat and Conference Centre, Galong where she is a member of the Centre’s extended management committee and has a particular interest in the development of the museum, archive and library.

Cheryl is a Project Officer with the History and Research Unit, Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the vice-president of the Yass & District Historical Society.
