MY DOG IS A PIECE OF WORK

‘PLEIN AIR’ FINALIST

Fire-Break,-Mullion_thumbYass Valley artist, Kim Nelson, had been listed as a finalist in the prestigious 2014 NSW Parliament ‘Plein Air’ Prize with his artwork ‘Fire Break, Mullion, NSW’.
Minister for Primary Industries & Small Business and Member for Burrinjuck, Katrina Hodgkinson, said she was delighted, in a media release this week.
“This painting is an outstanding work of art . . . It’s great to see the beautiful Yass Valley being highlighted as part of an exhibition that is so highly respected in the art world.”
Kim Nelson’s painting, along with 41 other finalists, will form a public exhibition at Parliament House in Sydney from 10 June to 1 August 2014.
The winner will be announced at a special function at the NSW Parliament on Wednesday 18 June.

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

Little-Shop-of-Horrors_thumThe Yass High School’s production of The Little Shop of Horror’s in May was a celebration in both enthusiasm and quality of production. The school pulled out all the stops in staging this broadway classic and packed out attendances proved how the word had got around. More than anything it was a platform for the amazing amount of musical and artistic talent we currently have in the region. Well done Yass High!

US PUBLICATION FOR VICTORIA

Yass Valley poet and writer Victoria McGrath has been included in the May Poetry Anthology of the prestigious American Publication ‘Silver Birch Press’. Victoria is ‘over the moon’ with the news, especially considering her submission was quite literally a ’11th hour’ creation. Well done Victoria.

YASSarts TO THE WORLD: #2!

Yass Valley born & bred artist, Joanne Barby, has hit the big time!. Along with a select group of Australia’s most skilled nature artists, Joanne has been invited to exhibit her work at the ‘Feathery Things’ exhibition at the renowned Bungendore Wood Works Gallery. Joanne’s talent has also been recognised in the United States, and later this year she will take up an invitation to conduct a workshop at the Donna Downey Studios at North Carolina.

YASSarts TO THE WORLD: #1!

Yass Valley musician/composer Leanne Bear, who created a special performance for last year’s YASSarts Arts Trail called ‘Neon Romantic, is currently on musical pilgrimage in Europe. She has been invited back next year to both Budapest and the Kodály Institute, Kecskemét for concerts of her works.

NSW BUSH POETRY CHAMPIONSHIPS – BINALONG

Yass Valley poet Robyn Sykes is very excited about the upcoming NSW Bush Poetry Championships which is being staged at Binalong on 12th – 14th September.
These championships now include a ‘written’ section. Entries close 1st August. It’s first in, best dressed, so don’t leave it to the last minute to enter!
